What is Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) registration?

Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) is the Irish immigration authority.

All students are required to register with GNIB within 3 months of arrival in Ireland. The purpose of the registration is to inform the authorities of your intention to stay and study in Ireland.

The registration can be carried out at the GNIB office is located at:

For the registration, you are required to bring along the following:
  1. Passport
  2. Student card issued by your institution
  3. A college letter stating the start date and duration of your course and that fees have been paid
  4. Irish bank statement showing your name and a balance of at least €3,000
  5. Evidence of private health insurance.
  6. Registration fee of €300 - to be paid by credit card, laser card or bank giro

You will be issued with a GNIB card valid for 1 year, and this card needs to be renewed on a yearly basis.
