Can I work while studying?

working while studying

International students are generally allowed to work in the country while studying full time in a recognised institution.

Your student visa will allow you to work, and you do not have to apply for a separate work visa

The number of hours that students can work while holding a student visa are as follows:

  • UK - 20 hr/wk during academic term, full time during vacation
  • Australia - 20 hr/wk during academic term, full time during vacation
  • Ireland - 20 hr/wk during academic term, 40 hr/wk during vacation
  • US - 20 hr/wk during academic term, full time during vacation (On-campus only. Off-campus is possible under Optional Practical Training (OPT) scheme)
The above working guideline may not apply to students who are on a non-standard visa class. We will be most glad to advise you on the guidelines if you are uncertain about your circumstance.
