Biochemistry explores life at the molecular level, encompassing processes such as metabolism, DNA replication, repair, and protein functions that facilitate communication within and between cells. Understanding these normal cellular mechanisms enables scientists to identify and address malfunctions. Our curriculum, informed by world-leading research, delivers cutting-edge knowledge alongside foundational principles, allowing students to select modules aligned with their interests and future career goals. In the first two years, students study topics like cell biology, biological organisation, and molecular mechanisms while developing practical skills in laboratory work, data analysis, and experiment design. Later years delve into advanced biochemistry, including a semester-long research project in a current Life Sciences area. A year in industry, supported by the university, can be undertaken between years three and four to build real-world experience, enhance employability, and foster professional networks; if a placement is unavailable, students may transfer to the standard course.
