About the course

One of the most remarkable features of our universe is that a vast array of phenomena can be explained through a limited set of physical laws. Theoretical physicists focus on identifying the precise mathematical principles that capture the fundamental nature of physical events, ranging from the quantum realm of subatomic particles and nanomaterials to the curvature of space-time and the expansive structure of the cosmos. The program's core curriculum includes quantum physics and electromagnetism in the first year, quantum mechanics and relativity in the second year, and particle physics, atomic physics, and condensed matter physics in the third year. In years two and three, students undertake specialized modules on topics such as classical fields, gravitation, cosmology, and particle physics, alongside electives like Quantum Information and The Early Universe. Project work is completed in both years, with examples of core modules including Dynamics and Content of the Universe, Classical Fields, and Quantum Mechanics; optional modules feature Quantum Information, Physics of Fluids, and The Early Universe.
