Lancaster’s Politics and Sociology degree, delivered by experts from the departments of Politics, Philosophy and Religion, and Sociology, equips students with a comprehensive understanding of how political ideas and institutions influence societal structures. Students can connect social and cultural interests to real-world events through core first-year modules like Politics in the Modern World and The Sociological Imagination. In subsequent years, a wide array of options is available, including courses on Middle East politics, international relations, and global development issues.The placement year, inserted between the second and final year, extends the program to four years and offers a paid, graduate-level position lasting nine to twelve months in various sectors. This experience allows students to explore potential careers, build professional networks, and enhance skills, with support from the university’s Careers and Placements Team for CV preparation, applications, and ongoing guidance. If a placement is not secured, students can transition to the standard three-year degree.
