About the course

The Neuroscience MSci program offers a comprehensive understanding of the nervous system, its influence on human behavior, and disorders such as schizophrenia, autism, mood disorders, and dementia. Through biological and psychological foundations, students explore how the brain and nervous system process the world, generate emotions, and shape behavior. The curriculum leverages recent scientific advances to inform life-changing treatments, while developing transferable skills in experimental design, data analysis, project management, teamwork, and communication—valued across sciences, marketing, finance, and management. The program begins with core principles in neuroscience, pharmacology, genetics, and psychology, progressing in Years 2 and 3 to advanced topics like fundamental and translational neuroscience, cognitive psychology, molecular/cellular mechanisms, neural circuits, and drug development. Year 3 features an independent research project addressing global healthcare challenges, supported by research-active academics. MSci students in Year 4 engage in master's-level studies and an extended research project, gaining advanced skills for careers in health, pharmaceuticals, or biotechnology. Membership in the British Neuroscience Association provides further opportunities. Hands-on training utilizes state-of-the-art facilities, including fluorescent imaging, confocal microscopes, EEG, and TMS, culminating in practical workshops and personalized dissertations.
