About the course

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics (MORSE) with Study Abroad is a four-year program designed for students interested in applying mathematical expertise to real-world business and industry challenges. This integrated degree combines core subjects—fundamental mathematics and statistics (including calculus, linear algebra, probability, and statistics), economic principles and applications, and operational research tools for business analytics—to develop highly valued skills. Graduates are prepared for careers such as business analyst, data scientist, operational researcher, or consultant, with opportunities in academic research. In Year 3, students spend a year at a partner university abroad, supported throughout for cultural and academic immersion, often returning with enhanced confidence and perspective. The program fosters personal development through hands-on experience with tools like Excel, R, and Python, alongside transferable skills in data analysis, quantitative reasoning, optimization, and programming. Students advance their knowledge in Years 2 and beyond via tailored modules, group/individual projects, and proficiency in scientific writing and presentation. A supportive community includes weekly workshops, problem-solving classes, one-to-one sessions, and MathSoc's Maths Café. Students appreciate the real-world focus, interdisciplinary challenges opening diverse career paths, and collaborative environment with peers, experts, and postgraduates.
