Chemists are exceptional problem solvers and analytical thinkers who have shaped the modern world. Our four-year MChem degree provides a multidisciplinary skill set, covering advanced topics such as chemical synthesis, materials, physics, analysis, computation, theory, and biology, alongside a substantial research component where students tackle contemporary problems in research groups.Taught by world-leading academics, the programme integrates organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry through logical stages. In the first year, core modules form two-thirds of the curriculum, complemented by optional subjects and hands-on training in state-of-the-art labs. Subsequent years deepen knowledge in areas like organic synthesis, spectroscopy, d-metal chemistry, and quantum chemistry, culminating in a major research project. Our inclusive department emphasises small-group teaching, excellent student-to-staff ratios, and supportive facilities to foster individual success.
