The BSc Biomedicine (Study Abroad) programme is designed for students with a keen interest in human life processes, disease, and international experiences. It provides greater flexibility than the IBMS-accredited BSc Biomedical Science, allowing customisation to individual interests in biomedicine. Core studies include biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, and physiology, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of life and disease. In the first year, students complete 15 compulsory modules for a solid foundation, such as Biomedical Science in Practice, Infection and Immunity, and Protein Biochemistry. The third year involves studying at an approved overseas university to enhance global perspectives. In the final year, students take core modules like Cancer and Medical Genetics, alongside options including Cellular Pathology, DNA Technology, Clinical Biochemistry, and Practical Physiology. Throughout the degree, participants undertake laboratory projects, benefit from expert academics, and access state-of-the-art facilities, including £4 million in new teaching laboratories. Lancaster University strives to secure overseas placements but cannot guarantee them or assume financial responsibility; alternatives are available if needed.
