Anyone already in education will tell you that teaching is one of the toughest jobs out there. It's also one of the most rewarding. To make sure you’re a successful and confident teacher in the 21st-century, we have devised a vibrant programme informed by research and constantly reviewed to ensure students are equipped with the most up-to-date developments in primary education.Graduates from the BA (hons) in Primary Education with QTS are reflective, respectful educators and learners, equipped to thrive in their chosen profession. You will be training within an Institute of Education recognised as Outstanding by OFSTED, at a university with a long heritage in and commitment to teacher education. The programme effectively blends theory and practice, providing you with the knowledge, understanding and skills for your future teaching career. You will develop strong research literacy enabling you to critically appraise literature and research and engage in an enquiry and research-based approach to teaching. You will be equipped with the knowledge, understanding and skills to analyse educational policy, theory and practice and gain a systematic understanding of how children develop and learn and the application of pedagogical skills in the primary classroom.Your work on campus and on school placements will combine to develop a reflective approach to your own practice and the ability to work flexibly, creatively and thoughtfully in the classroom, taking account of the diversity, needs and responses of all your pupils. There’s ample scope for you to personalise a professional portfolio in both breadth and depth to meet your own needs and follow areas of particular interest. The teaching team encourages this and combines plenty of hands-on experience, expertise and enthusiasm to nurture you through your academic and professional journey.By the end of Year 1, with experience of both the taught programme and teaching in schools, you can opt to take a Sandwich Year between years 2 and 3, to engage in a self-directed work placement in an educational setting to enrich your experience and understanding of different educational environments and cultures. The Institute has strong international connections and offers a range of opportunities for international study and educational visits of varying durations, as well as opportunities to welcome visiting students and staff to our campus.
