About the course

The degree consists of three strands which extend throughout the entire course. The strands focus on social anthropology, biological anthropology and archaeology/material culture. There are also modules in each of the three years which connect these strands to ensure you get a broad overview of the discipline of anthropology. This course enables you to address questions commonly posed by anthropologists. How has evolution shaped us? What is culture? How can we understand the implicit cultural structures that shape our daily activities? Do any universals of human behaviour exist? To what degree are societies different, and how far do they follow similar principles? There are opportunities to specialise, particularly through the optional modules in subsequent years and the dissertation or placement.
