87.9% of our Engineering research outputs were assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021).Sustainability is increasingly vital in the automotive industry, with manufacturers adopting eco-friendly processes for vehicle development and production. At the University of Sussex, this course in sustainable automotive engineering provides foundational knowledge in materials, manufacturing, mechanics, and electrical circuits; skills in CAD modelling, programming, and numerical analysis; and expertise in low-emission propulsion, next-generation technologies, electric drives, and vehicle dynamics. Research from our Dynamics, Control, and Vehicle group directly informs teaching, while facilities include Future Technologies Labs, a manufacturing lab with CNC machines and 3D printers, and Formula Student projects for designing electric racing cars. Students receive support from academic advisers, mentors, and industry partners, plus respected accreditation. Options include BEng/MEng with or without industrial placement.
