About the course

87.9% of our Engineering research outputs were assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021).This course addresses the growing importance of sustainability in the automotive industry, covering sustainable processes in vehicle development and manufacturing. Students gain foundational knowledge in materials, manufacturing, mechanics, and electrical circuits; master CAD modelling, programming, and numerical methods; and explore low-emission propulsion, advanced vehicle technologies, electrical drives, and dynamics. Research from our Dynamics, Control, and Vehicle group directly informs teaching, with projects on diagnostics, intelligent controllers, and autonomous vehicles. Facilities include Future Technologies Labs, a manufacturing lab with CNC machines and 3D printers, and Formula Student projects to design and race electric vehicles. Supported by academic advisers, mentors, and industry links, graduates are equipped for industry challenges. An optional placement year enhances employability, with careers team assistance. Accredited for career advantage; available as BEng/MEng (4-5 years, with/without placement). Located on a green campus near Brighton & Hove, Gatwick, and London.
