This course explores how mathematics addresses real-world challenges, such as infectious disease dynamics, social media trends, and queue behaviour. Students collaborate with experts on impactful projects, including COVID forecasting and flood prediction, gaining practical research experience through summer placements at Sussex. Designed for high-achieving academics, it provides funding for living expenses, skill development in areas like calculus, mathematical biology, cryptography, probability, financial mathematics, and partial differential equations, plus training in software such as MATLAB, Python, and R.The flexible programme builds a strong foundation in core mathematics while allowing focus on personal interests, supported by a close-knit department, academic advisers, and career guidance. It is accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications for Chartered Mathematician status. Options include versions without placements or as a three-year BSc.
