In Biological Sciences, 94% of our research is rated world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021), and we rank in the top 20 in the UK for Environmental Sciences (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023). This MSci course addresses critical ecological challenges, such as managing environmental change and conserving rare species, through teaching by active ecologists influencing global debates in evolutionary biology, species conservation, and sustainability. Students join a supportive community in the School of Life Sciences, benefiting from Sussex's prime location near the South Downs National Park and the coast, with field trips available in the UK, Portugal, Southern Africa, the Red Sea, and Ecuador.The programme equips graduates for careers in sectors like Natural England, the Environment Agency, RSPB, WWF, and Greenpeace, while the integrated Masters year provides advanced research training through individual projects, enhancing technical, analytical, and communication skills. We also offer a three-year BSc option. Based on our green campus near Brighton & Hove, with easy access to London and Gatwick, the University of Sussex fosters innovation and global impact across science, policy, and society.
