About the course

Since 1978, we have delivered teaching and research in Film and Media, blending academic and practical approaches to rank among Scotland’s leading institutions. We top Scotland for student satisfaction (2016 National Student Survey). Students receive expert instruction from researchers and media professionals, accessing the on-campus Macrobert Arts Centre, AirTV, The Brig, and Air3 Radio. Curriculum integrates critical analysis of film, broadcasting, digital media, advertising, and political communications with hands-on modules in production, post-production, pitching, and research. Strong industry ties, modern facilities, and exchange programs to the US, Canada, Australia, and Europe enhance opportunities.Explore society, welfare, crime, and justice through Sociology, Social Policy, and Criminology. Courses examine social change, differentiation, problems, order, and policy with an international focus on Scotland, UK, EU, Europe, Australasia, North/Latin America. Flexible structure allows three subjects per semester in years one-two, enabling shifts in emphasis, mode, or subjects until mid-second year. Many pursue combined degrees with Law, History, Education, Politics, Philosophy, Business, languages, Computing, or Psychology. Core modules—Social Differentiation, Social Problems, Understanding Social Policy, Development of Social Theory—build foundational knowledge.
