The University of St Andrews, renowned for over 600 years as a premier teaching institution, offers a flexible degree structure that fosters inquisitive minds and collaborative learning. The Gateway to Medicine is a one-year programme designed to encourage higher education in medicine for underrepresented groups in Scotland, enabling eligible students who have completed S5 or S6 to study at first-year undergraduate level. Successful participants may progress to the six-year Medicine A100 course.Eligibility requires applicants to be Scottish residents, classified as 'Home' for fees, and not meeting A100 entry standards, while also satisfying at least one criterion such as involvement in a Reach project, residence in a socio-economically disadvantaged area, or attendance at a low-progression school. Shortlisted candidates will undergo a brief informal interview, and upon completion, students meeting progression requirements can transfer to the medical programme or an Honours degree.
