Sociology examines how individuals organize their collective lives, the constraints they encounter, patterns of social behavior, and the causes and consequences of social inequalities. A distinctive feature of our program, praised by external examiners and graduates, is its integration of sociological, criminological, and anthropological perspectives.Philosophy systematically seeks clear answers to profound questions about knowledge, existence, morality, science, and human nature through reason and argument. We host reading retreats for students, typically in the Highlands, and support a thriving undergraduate Philosophy Society.
