Sociology examines how individuals organize their lives collectively, the constraints they encounter, patterns in social behavior, and the causes and consequences of social inequalities. A distinctive strength of our program, as commended by external examiners and graduates, lies in its integration of sociological, criminological, and anthropological perspectives.English Language and Linguistics investigates the structure and meaning of the English language across history to illuminate aspects of our culture, society, and identity. Over the past 50 years, we have developed the world-leading Historical Thesaurus of English, a unique resource for tracing the semantic evolution of its vast vocabulary. Students will also access dedicated laboratories for analyzing spoken and written language.
