Scottish Literature examines Scotland's poetry, drama, fiction, and prose from the 14th century to contemporary works. The University hosts the UK's only academic unit dedicated exclusively to teaching and researching Scottish literature, including the Centre for Robert Burns Studies, which is producing a new multi-volume scholarly edition of Scotland’s national poet.Sociology explores how people organize their social lives, the constraints they face, patterns of social behaviour, and the causes and consequences of social inequalities. A distinctive feature of our programme, commended by external examiners and graduates, is its integration of sociological, criminological, and anthropological perspectives.
