International Relations examines interactions among states and national societies across borders, focusing on political, military, economic, and cultural dimensions.Glasgow enjoys a strong reputation for research and teaching in international relations, with expertise in global security, conflict, and regional studies including Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, China, and the Middle East. Students gain a thorough understanding of the field’s ties to politics from leading academics. Social and Public Policy addresses global challenges like poverty, inequality, housing, health, technology, and sustainability, drawing on political science, sociology, and economics to analyze governmental responses to societal needs, welfare, and wellbeing. The teaching team received the 2020 Social Policy Association/Policy Press Outstanding Teaching Award, and the programme ranked joint top in the UK for student satisfaction (NSS 2019), with opportunities for placements in voluntary or public sector organizations.
