The English Language and Linguistics program explores the structure and meaning of the English language across history, revealing insights into culture, society, and human identity. Over the past 50 years, we have developed the world-leading Historical Thesaurus of English, a unique resource for tracing the evolution of its vast vocabulary. Students gain access to specialized laboratories for analyzing spoken and written language.In Italian studies, students delve into the language and culture of a major EU nation that has shaped Europe's political and artistic heritage. Glasgow's established tradition of teaching, supported by excellent library resources, features small-group instruction by native speakers, enabling advanced proficiency in written and spoken Italian.
