Classics encompasses the literature, history, art, and material culture of ancient Greece and Rome, with Latin and/or Greek language study available at all levels. History examines change and continuity in human societies over time, with Glasgow offering a comprehensive programme from medieval to modern eras, drawing on expertise in Scottish, British, European, US, global history; slavery; gender; and war, intelligence, and genocide studies.At the University of Glasgow, Classics students visit archaeological sites and museums in Italy and Greece, with Honours students eligible for up to three weeks abroad (post-year 3) and financial support. Year 3 options include study abroad in Europe (e.g., Athens, Rome), Australia, New Zealand, or North America. History features global courses, small-group teaching, diverse assessments (e.g., policy papers, blogs), personalised feedback, and leading research centres. Graduates pursue careers in heritage, teaching, consultancy, finance, publishing, law, accountancy, IT, civil service, museums, and more; recent employers include HarperCollins, Police Scotland, Oxfam, Glasgow Museums, and Morgan Stanley.
