The 20th century brought dramatic shifts to Central and Eastern Europe through wars, revolutions, and socioeconomic upheaval, culminating in communism's collapse and ongoing challenges like populism, the Russo-Ukrainian War, and instability in the Caucasus and Central Asia. Politics examines power distribution in society and its impact on decision-making across states. Studying Central & East European Studies at the University of Glasgow offers insights into global issues, bolstered by over 75 years of leading research, the Centre for Russian, Central & East European Studies, the Europe-Asia Studies journal, and extensive library collections.Optional languages (Czech, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian) complement courses in international relations, political theory, and regional politics, plus study abroad opportunities. Graduates pursue careers in the European Commission, foreign offices, governments, NGOs, journalism, and business, with high demand due to EU/NATO expansion and regional developments.
