About the course

Celtic Studies at the University of Glasgow allows students to combine language learning with courses on medieval and modern Celtic cultures of the British Isles. The programme explores English literature from early modern to postmodern periods, drawing on expertise in American, Irish and postcolonial literatures, critical theory, creative writing, and interdisciplinary connections with arts, media and science.Students benefit from studying with leading scholars, accessing the world-class Hunterian collection and Library Special Collections (strong in 18th-19th centuries, travel, manuscripts and author holdings), and learning a Celtic language. Graduates pursue diverse careers in teaching, museums, heritage, publishing, music and entrepreneurship, or advance to research and academia. An English Literature degree is highly valued for skills like argumentation, creativity and critical analysis, opening doors in arts, education, media, PR, finance, business and technology, supported by dedicated careers advisers.
