Celtic Civilisation explores the rich history of the Celts, encompassing the evolution of their societies, literature, material culture, art, and religion from ancient times on the European continent to contemporary Britain and Ireland. Students can examine medieval and modern aspects of Celtic-speaking cultures alongside leading researchers, as part of a joint degree programme that does not require learning a Celtic language.Philosophy involves the rigorous pursuit of reasoned answers to fundamental questions about knowledge, existence, ethics, science, and human nature. The department organises reading retreats in the Highlands, supports a vibrant undergraduate Philosophy Society, and hosts the Centre for the Study of Perceptual Experience.
