About the course

Archaeology examines how past societies engaged with their environment through in-depth analysis of artefacts, sites, monuments, and landscapes. Students can develop practical fieldwork skills in the UK and internationally, with recent participants conducting research in locations such as the Baltic states, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, and Portugal.History explores the dynamics of change and continuity in human societies over time. This comprehensive programme introduces various methodologies for interpreting the past to inform contemporary understanding in political, economic, ideological, social, and cultural contexts. It includes the Centre for Gender History, which collaborates with external organisations on women's and gender issues, and offers courses through the Scottish Centre for War Studies, providing expertise on warfare and conflict from the medieval era to today.
