Ancient History encompasses the examination of the history and culture of Greece, Rome, and the broader Mediterranean region from the 8th century B.C. to the 5th century A.D. Students may choose to study Latin and ancient Greek, with opportunities to visit archaeological sites and museums in Italy and Greece as part of the program.Philosophy involves a methodical approach to addressing profound questions about knowledge, existence, morality, science, and human nature through reason and argument. The department hosts the Centre for the Study of Perceptual Experience, organizes reading parties for students in the Highlands, and maintains a vibrant undergraduate Philosophy Society.
