Ancient History / English Literature, MA (Hons)

This joint programme in Ancient History and English Literature at the University of Glasgow covers the history and culture of Greece, Rome, and the wider Mediterranean from the 8th century BC to the 5th century AD, with optional Latin and ancient Greek. Students explore English literature from early modern to postmodern eras, drawing on expertise in American, Irish, postcolonial literatures, critical theory, creative writing, and interdisciplinary links with arts, media, and science.Unique opportunities include visits to archaeological sites and museums in Italy and Greece, extended Honours trips (up to three weeks), and a year 3 abroad at universities in Europe (e.g., Athens, Rome), Australia, New Zealand, or North America. Access to the Hunterian collection and Special Collections enhances study.
