Ancient and Medieval History and Culture, BA (Hons)

The Ancient and Medieval History and Culture programme focuses on the period from approximately 2000 B.C. to 1500 A.D., investigating societal, political, religious, artistic, and architectural transformations that have shaped the modern world. Over the four-year course, students explore key topics such as the evolution of governance systems—from ancient Greek democracy to medieval monarchies and empires—the formation of Europe, shifts in belief systems and practices from polytheistic deities to Christianity's dominance, the development of legal frameworks, and the role of warfare in driving change.Additionally, the curriculum addresses advancements in education, including the emergence of universities, evolving attitudes toward gender, sexuality, and women's societal roles, as well as the varied styles of European art and architecture during this era.
