About the course

A degree in Mechanical Engineering is the basis for a professional career in a broad range of industry sectors. Our professionally accredited degree programmes offer an exciting blend of learning experiences designed to ensure our students not only master the scientific fundamentals, but also develop the skills, attitudes and experience demanded by 21st century engineering and society. This programme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.Work placement/Year in industry - Students are encouraged to gain relevant work experience to enhance their employability by applying for a summer internship or a year placement with an approved company/organisation. The School of Engineering MEng and BEng with a year in industry programmes are available to all* students. Whilst the School of Engineering and the University will provide the necessary support and guidance, it is the responsibility of the student to secure an industrial placement. Applicants should note that industrial placements are highly sought after and competition to be accepted into one can be significant. They therefore cannot be guaranteed. Students who fail to secure a suitable placement offer will transfer back to the standard version of the programme without a year in industry.*Overseas students are applicable, though restrictions may apply.
