About the course

A degree in Mechanical Engineering provides a strong foundation for careers across diverse industry sectors. Our accredited programmes deliver an engaging mix of educational experiences, enabling students to grasp essential scientific principles while cultivating the skills, mindset, and practical exposure required for modern engineering and societal demands. The programme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council, fully satisfying the academic criteria for Incorporated Engineer registration and partially for Chartered Engineer status. Students are encouraged to pursue work experience through summer internships or a year-long placement with an approved organisation to boost employability. The School of Engineering offers MEng and BEng programmes with an industry year, available to all students, including international ones (subject to restrictions). While support is provided, securing a placement is the student's responsibility, and it is not guaranteed; unsuccessful applicants will revert to the standard programme. For more details, refer to university resources.
