About the course

This four-year BA (Hons) in Sport, Media and Culture with a Year Abroad programme prepares students for careers as professional sports content creators and communicators in the modern sports media landscape. It combines practical training in sports journalism, commentary, and promotion with theoretical insights into fandom, national identity, and sports narratives. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of sports media through socio-cultural analysis, developing skills in creating multi-media content such as podcasts, match reports, and promotional strategies. The curriculum includes industry-standard facilities, teaching from experienced academics, and partnerships with organisations like Swansea City FC, alongside placement opportunities and a supportive student community. In the first year, core modules like Introduction to Media Communication and Creative Media Platforms build foundational knowledge, while later years offer practical options such as Sports Commentary, Public Relations, and Documentary Filmmaking. At least 40 credits can be studied in Welsh. Assessment focuses on coursework, blending academic analyses with hands-on projects like sports podcasts and commentary tracks, ensuring graduates are employable and globally experienced through the Year Abroad.
