Microbiology and Immunology, BSc (Hons)

Microbiology explores microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses, while immunology examines the immune system's defenses against them. This interdisciplinary program delves into their structure, function, interactions, disease-causing potential, and industrial uses, including antimicrobials and immunotherapeutics. It addresses infectious diseases, immune disorders, and real-world applications in healthcare, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals, preparing graduates for high-demand roles with access to advanced facilities like DNA analyzers and flow cytometry.The curriculum spans three years, covering topics from eukaryotic cell biology and immunology insights in Year 1, to medical genetics and virology in Year 2, and capstone projects with bioinformatics and immunotherapeutics in Year 3. Assessment includes lectures, practical labs, self-directed learning, and workshops, taught by experts in microbiology, immunology, and bioinformatics. This program does not award qualified teacher status.
