About the course

Classical Studies at Swansea University explores the literature and cultures of ancient Greece and Rome through a three-year BA degree. Students engage with diverse texts in translation from the ancient Mediterranean, examining Greek and Roman culture from the archaic period to the fall of the Roman Empire. This includes analysing myths, epics, tragedies, novels, and satire, with hands-on access to cultural artefacts via the on-campus Egypt Centre. Participants contribute to research groups like KYKNOS and OLCAP, and benefit from a supportive community, including societies and guest speakers, with the programme ranked third in the UK for student experience (Times Good University Guide 2024).The degree features a mix of compulsory and optional modules, such as Greek Mythology and Gender in the Roman World, culminating in an independent dissertation. Assessment methods vary, incorporating essays, examinations, practical work, creative projects, presentations, and group activities to develop research, analytical, and communication skills. Graduates enhance employability in sectors like education, business, and media, with full details available on the university website.
