About the course

Have you ever wondered how and why the RBA influences interest rates? Or how we transition to a lower carbon economy? Or how do we regulate complex markets like petrol and retail electricity to provide better outcomes for consumers? Or what steps can we take to actively bridge the gender pay gap and create equal opportunities for men and women? If these questions interest you, studying economics could be a great choice. Economics is a unique way of thinking and analysing how the world works. Economics provides insights into national and global economy and offers ways to tackle the real-world challenges shaping our society. As an economist, your work will revolve around real-world issues to inform corporate strategy and government policy. In this course, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of economics, covering both microeconomics and macroeconomics applied to contemporary issues. You will learn about the interplay between the decisions and actions of consumers, firms and governments, economic growth, business cycles, unemployment, inflation, and international trade. You will build skills in data and statistics to support your economic analysis. Real-world learning is embedded in this course, and throughout your degree, you'll have the chance to engage in practical learning opportunities that allow you to apply the theories you've learned in class to real-world situations. These opportunities include working as consultants with leading industry organisations, gaining professional work experience through our work integrated learning unit, and participating in immersive, international field projects.
