About the course

PHILOSOPHY gives you the ability to question the world in a critical manner which is a vital skill which many of today's leading employers are looking for. MEDIA is a popular course which enables you to design your perfect degree by offering a mixture of theoretical and practical modules that consider approaches to the media. You can shape your study according to your strengths, interests and career ambitions. Philosophy at NTU aims to develop your powers of argument, critical thinking and conceptual analysis through the search for answers to ultimate questions. This course differs from the typical philosophy courses on offer at most other universities as it is not a course in the history of ideas. The course is organised around some of the philosophical problems faced by today's decision-makers in their professional lives. In general, this course examines the interface between philosophical ideas and everyday life, and has been designed in order to help you think more clearly and more critically about the world in which you live. NTU's Philosophy courses are joint 9th in the UK for student satisfaction (NSS 2020). Media at NTU combines a mixture of theoretical and practical approaches to give a broad understanding of the industry. You'll learn from industry professionals and from academics who are creating the latest cutting edge research from the field. You'll examine a range of texts and aspects of media including; lifestyle magazines, social networking sites, advertising, public relations, gaming and journalism. This joint honours degree will provide you with a breadth of important skills which today's employers are seeking. You'll be able to question the world and search for answers to ultimate questions, as well as develop your powers of argument, critical thinking and conceptual analysis. You'll also gain skills such as, creativity, critical reasoning, project management and be able to analyse a range of media texts, audiences and institutions. NTU's Media course will also offer you the opportunity to gain practical media production skills and invaluable work experience with many creative industries. This joint honours course has helped many undergraduates to secure careers within a variety of communications and creative industries, which includes, film and television, radio and advertising. 95% of our Media joint honours undergraduates are in work or further study within just six months of finishing their degree (DLHE 2016/17).
