About the course

Civil engineers creatively solve real-world problems by developing essential infrastructure—from bridges and roads to hospitals and train stations. This course builds your understanding of engineering principles and their practical application, fostering high-quality technical skills, people management, advanced mathematics, design, sustainability, health, and safety expertise through hands-on projects, theory, and placements.Key features include industry-standard facilities (concrete, materials, hydraulics, geotechnics, structural testing); applied projects with partners like nmcn, Severn Trent Water, and Nottingham City Council; accreditation fully meeting Incorporated Engineer (IEng) requirements and partially for Chartered Engineer (CEng)*; and an optional placement year with firms such as VolkerFitzpatrick and BAM Nuttall. NTU ranks 2nd globally for sustainability (UI GreenMetric 2024), with 100% student satisfaction in skill development (NSS 2024) and 1st in UK employability (Uni Compare 2025).*A programme of accredited Further Learning, such as NTU's MSc or MEng Civil Engineering, is required for full CEng status. See the JBM website for details.
