The Textile Design BA (Hons) course provides a diverse and inclusive curriculum, training multidisciplinary practitioners through exploration of materials, processes, and design methodologies. This dynamic program spans traditional crafts to advanced digital technologies, encouraging students to experiment with techniques, develop conceptual skills, and engage critically with historical, cultural, ethical, and sustainability issues. It fosters individuality, preparing graduates for careers in fashion, interior design, architecture, art, research, and digital fields.In the first year, students study drawing, visual research, design development, and textiles processes. The second year covers materials, sampling, conceptual applications, and professional practices, with an optional module available. Final year focuses on innovation, research reports, and a studio project. Assessment is coursework-based, including practical projects, essays, presentations, and reflective work to build industry-relevant skills.
In your first year areas studied include drawing, introduction to modern and contemporary art and design, visual research, design development, and textiles process and exploration. In your second year areas studied include materials, processes and conceptual application, sampling and textile manufacture, and professional and business practice. You will be given the opportunity to select one optional module from a diverse School-wide list. In your final year modules studied include Innovation, Exploration and Invention, Textiles Research Report, and a Textiles Studio Practice Final Project.
