Film, Media and Cultural Studies, BA (Hons)

Lancaster University’s degree in Film, Media and Cultural Studies, delivered by the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts and the Sociology department, provides an opportunity to explore film within broader contexts of communications, entertainment media, and culture.The Film Studies component offers an intellectually engaging framework for analyzing films, studying cinema history, production techniques, and creating short films across all years. Meanwhile, Media and Cultural Studies critically examines media history, politics, subcultures, and issues like gender, race, and body image, with integrated practical elements. Students take core modules from both programs, select optional topics, and conclude with a supported independent dissertation that may combine practical and written components.
