Some of the genres you may encounter include science fiction; gothic; utopia; world literature; the graphic novel; travel writing and slave narratives. You’ll discover a wide range of authors, from which could include classics such as Geoffrey Chaucer, John Milton, Jane Austen, Mary Shelley, Charlotte Bronte and Oscar Wilde and more modern and contemporary authors such as Virginia Woolf, Jean Rhys, Chinua Achebe, Samuel Beckett, Margaret Atwood, Jackie Kay and Carol Ann Duffy. Flexibility is built into our degree programme, meaning you can immerse yourself in English Literature or combine it with another complementary subject. The study abroad option is an exciting and informative experience for anyone who is thinking of working abroad during their career or who simply wants the experience of living and studying overseas as part of their degree. You will study in your third year at one of our international partner universities. We offer a number of placement and internship opportunities, which could include classroom experience in schools, a short placement in a creative or heritage organisations and internship opportunities, as well as a separate placement year degree.Lancaster University will make reasonable endeavours to place students at an approved overseas partner university that offers appropriate modules. Occasionally places overseas may not be available for all students who want to study abroad or the place at the partner university may be withdrawn if core modules are unavailable.
