About the course

This programme expands your knowledge of ecology and conservation, exploring organism interactions and human impacts in diverse locations like the United States, Canada, or Australia. Delivered by esteemed researchers, it offers comprehensive training in ecological theory and practice through lectures, practical sessions, fieldwork, and tutorials. Students gain hands-on experience in species study and ecosystem conservation, with exciting fieldwork in sites such as Spain's Doñana National Park, rural Scotland, and Kenya's Rift Valley. The first year introduces core topics in ecology and conservation biology, including a field course in southern Spain. From the second year, specialisation allows selection of modules in ecology and practical skills, followed by a third year abroad at partner universities. The final year involves an independent research project at Lancaster, with options like Animal Behaviour and Conservation in Practice. Note that overseas placements are subject to availability, with alternatives offered if needed.
