Geoscientists play a vital role in addressing global issues like climate change, sustainable development, resource management, and natural hazards. It examines both natural and human-influenced environments, exploring the factors, processes, and historical evolution that shape the current state, as well as potential future changes.The program draws on expertise in areas such as volcanology, geophysics, hydrogeology, and glaciology. The first year covers foundational topics in Earth and environmental sciences, including geology, atmosphere, weather, and climate. Specialisation begins in the second year, with options in fields like geological hazards or glacial systems, leading to a third-year dissertation that may involve fieldwork, lab research, or modelling. Students can participate in field courses, such as those at Mount Etna or the Lake District, and gain transferable skills in communication, IT, data handling, and environmental analysis—highly valued by employers.
