About the course

Our four-year Biomedicine degree with a placement year is ideal for students with a broad interest in human life processes, disease, and practical work experience. It provides more flexibility than our IBMS-accredited BSc Biomedical Science, enabling you to tailor your studies to your personal and professional interests. Core subjects include biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, and physiology, with an emphasis on the molecular mechanisms underlying life processes and disease. In your first year, you will study 15 core modules for a solid foundation. In subsequent years, you will take essential modules like Medical Microbiology and Medical Genetics, alongside optional ones such as Cellular Pathology and Clinical Biochemistry. The third year features a paid industrial placement, with university support to secure it. If unsuccessful, you can transfer to the non-placement version. Throughout, you will conduct a laboratory project, receive training in key biomedical techniques, and access excellent facilities, including £4 million in new teaching laboratories.
