Biochemistry, BSc (Hons), with industry placement

Biochemistry explores the molecular structure and function of living organisms, serving as a dynamic field central to biology and medicine. The BSc Biochemistry (Placement Year) offers core modules in biochemistry and chemistry, with pathways for specialisation in genetics or biomedicine. This four-year programme supports students in securing a paid, 12-month placement in relevant organisations, providing full employee experiences alongside academic guidance from Lancaster University.To prepare for placements, the Careers and Placements Team offers training on CVs, interviews, and professional development through workshops and online resources. While support is provided, placements are competitive, and unsuccessful students transfer to the standard BSc. The curriculum includes foundational modules in the first year, practical biochemistry in the second, and advanced options in the final year, culminating in a laboratory project. Excellent facilities, including £4 million in new labs, ensure hands-on learning with about 50% of time dedicated to practical activities.
