Biochemistry explores the molecular structure and functions of living organisms, serving as a dynamic and evolving field that underpins research in biology and medicine.This three-year degree features core modules in biochemistry and chemistry, alongside options in related disciplines. Students can select a pathway focused on biochemistry or specialised in genetics or biomedicine. In the first year, foundational modules cover broad aspects of biology and chemistry, with additional pathway-specific courses. Flexibility allows changes between pathways throughout the programme. The second year emphasises biochemistry and practical skills for laboratory work, while the third year advances along the chosen pathway, offering modules like Innovation in the Biosciences or Neurobiology. Students undertake an independent lab project, drawing on expertise from renowned academics, and utilise Lancaster University's state-of-the-art facilities, including £4 million in new life science labs for hands-on learning and dissertations.
