Environmental Science with Hazards and Disasters, BSc (Hons), with industry placement

The BSc (Hons) Natural Hazards and Disaster Risk Reduction course is accredited by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), featuring practical UK and overseas fieldwork on earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, and coastal flooding. Students collaborate with hazard practitioners, undertake a paid one-year work placement, and benefit from dedicated careers support, with 100% student satisfaction in staff explanations and skill development (NSS 2023).The programme explores causes of natural hazards, social disaster factors, emergency planning, and disaster risk reduction (DRR), building expertise through real-world exercises and guest speakers from DRR organisations. Embedded Future Skills—such as problem-solving, digital competency, and adaptability—prepare graduates for roles in local governments, INGOs, first responders, civil defence, insurance, and environmental consultancy.
