Building surveyors play a vital role in Scotland's construction industry, focusing on building management and development while advising clients on commercial and residential matters. Due to the programme's high quality, graduates are in strong demand across Scotland, the UK, and internationally, with expertise required in areas such as analytical assessments, CAD recording, design management, property improvements, and project administration in diverse settings.The profession encompasses a wide range of fields, including design, construction technology, conservation, CAD, professional practice, building pathology, sustainability, and regulations. At GCU, where most Scottish building surveying graduates are trained, the focus is on practical learning through site visits, live projects, guest lectures from industry experts, and a six- to eight-month work placement in Year 3. Students can also study abroad, with second-year trips to major European cities available, and honours graduates may pursue membership in the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB).
