From September 2025, this course will be delivered under the new code HU10; prospective students should apply using this code for that start date. Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) are specially trained professionals who work in operating theatres, collaborating with surgeons, anaesthetists, and teams to prepare for and assist in surgical and anaesthetic procedures, while enhancing patient care and safety.ODPs handle essential tasks in perioperative settings, including theatre preparation, equipment management, and patient support from pre-anaesthesia through recovery. The course develops key skills like maintaining composure under pressure and promoting a safe, inclusive environment. It includes simulated training, university-sourced placements, and eligibility for HCPC registration. Students study modules sequentially with assessments, and home students may access government funding of at least £5,000 annually, plus extras for childcare. This program, supported by experienced staff and NHS partners, prepares graduates for diverse roles in healthcare, emphasizing employability in areas like critical care and leadership.
