This course features two six-month placements and explores the growing field of psychology in sport, health, and exercise, examining the interplay between mind and body to understand motivation, determination, and the impact of physical activity on the brain. Jointly delivered by the Divisions of Psychology and Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences, it is accredited by the British Psychological Society. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in cognitive, developmental, and biological psychology, along with quantitative and qualitative research methods for dissertation projects. It also covers sports psychology fundamentals and their application in real-world contexts, preparing students for roles as applied psychology practitioners.Typical modules include Psychology of Sport and Exercise, Learning and Social Psychology, and Employability in Psychology. Assessment involves coursework such as presentations, lab reports, case studies, essays, exams, and a final-year dissertation. Graduates achieving a 2:2 or higher are eligible for British Psychological Society graduate membership, essential for postgraduate training and entry into accredited Stage 2 or Doctoral programmes for chartered psychologist status.
